The Switch

Hello. Have we told you about the box?

IMG_20150413_114118358

I poked this head sized hidey hole in it so I can see my brother coming…

IMG_20150413_114242382_HDR

And hide.

IMG_20150413_114458669

TADAAAAAA! I leap from the box!

IMG_20150413_114501022

Did someone see a brother come through here?

IMG_20150413_114521499

Hello. Have we told you about the box?

Best box ever.

Kittens in the Kitchen

The Boy and I have a pretty good arrangement for presents: I tell him exactly what I want and where to get it, and he goes and buys it. Since we both work downtown and I shop downtown, that’s where his purchases usually happen. On Friday, we met for beer and dinner – but he needed to put “something” in my trunk in the parking garage.

After dinner, we went home and Kitten Thunder opened my birthday present for me.

A bag AND a box? Boy, you shouldn’t have.

IMG_20140425_210655_217 IMG_20140425_210454_747 IMG_20140425_210143_318 IMG_20140425_210705_098 IMG_20140425_210256_768 IMG_20140425_210837_482 IMG_20140425_210821_196 IMG_20140425_211258_818 IMG_20140425_211506_303 IMG_20140425_211234_102 IMG_20140425_211309_404 IMG_20140425_211444_333

The Girl’s birthday is happy for everyone.

Box-a-Palooza!

The Boy is very picky about his work shoes – they have to look nice with slacks but stand up to walking through construction sites. He found a pair that he liked last week, but not in the color he needed, so he had to have them shipped to him.

They came in a box. That was in a box.

And the kittens rejoiced.

Then, today, I came home and finally noticed Obi sitting on a NEW box.

IMG_20140422_184531_447

I made him get off the box so I could cut it open. I took two steps away to put the scissors on the coffee table. When I turned back around, Oliver was already looking at me – disappointed – because there was stuff in the box.

IMG_20140422_184700_075

So I emptied it for him.

IMG_20140422_184740_351

Oliver told Obi, “it fits just right.”

IMG_20140422_184805_414

Poor Obi, he got my attention…his brother got the box.

IMG_20140422_184836_298

But! Inside the box, was a box.

IMG_20140422_184957_178

I emptied it quickly and urged Obi to claim it.

IMG_20140422_185053_855

Poor Obi…his brother wanted that box, too.

IMG_20140422_185133_481

Wait…maybe NOT “poor Obi.”

IMG_20140422_185416_750

Seems like he got what he wanted all along.

IMG_20140422_185426_861

So what was in the box inside the box? It is the new blending system that my parents gave me for my upcoming birthday (Saturday). Oliver closely inspected all the contents. Then he must have seen the directions.

He washed thoroughly before using.

IMG_20140422_185531_646

And Obi got the second box as well.

IMG_20140422_190226_213

Cat in a Box

This is not just a pile of boxes.

IMG_20140406_151414_321

It is a secret fortress.

IMG_20140406_151426_438

If you lean in close, you’ll see something.

IMG_20140406_151434_253

If you come very close, and peek in the hole…

IMG_20140406_151452_041

WHAMMO! You’ll get punched in the eye!

IMG_20140406_151504_824

Stay away from the fortress.

Dr. Tiffany is coming to see Obi tomorrow for his annual check up. As usual, I expect him to play with her and snuggle and not ever realize that she has given him shots or anything unpleasant.

Monday, when I emailed her for the appointment, I mentioned that Oliver’s allergies are acting up and that he is almost out of drugs. She says he’s right on schedule… because I said the same thing last year on April 5.

So at least he’s consistent.

I’m sure there will be a story to tell after the appointment.

Trying Out the Box of the Month

Have I mentioned how perfect the boxes from our monthly beer shipments are?IMG_20140113_194318_011IMG_20140113_194327_150 IMG_20140113_194505_072 IMG_20140113_194507_705 IMG_20140113_194527_284 IMG_20140113_194531_201 IMG_20140113_194533_656 IMG_20140113_194539_793

Battle: Fortress

I was cleaning the house today and ruthlessly tossing out parts of kitty playland; I removed several shopping bags, some tissue paper, and flattened boxes. Then I rebuilt the fortress in our entry way that consists of one large piece of paper and two boxes. I crumpled some tissue paper and tossed it in the box.

Oliver promptly climbed into the box and shoved the tissue out.

IMG_20140223_150216_366

Obi arrived and pushed the paper ceiling down. Oliver ran from the fortress and there was a flurry of furry. A furry flurry.

IMG_20140223_150353_170

Obi returned to stomp the paper down some more.

IMG_20140223_150406_617 IMG_20140223_150417_016

He tried out the inside of the fortress as Oliver returned.

IMG_20140223_150505_982

But if it wasn’t going to cause a thunder, Obi didn’t really want to be in the box.

IMG_20140223_150513_639

Oli reclaimed the box as Obi came to see what I was doing, laying flat on the floor in the living room.

IMG_20140223_150536_786 IMG_20140223_150546_489

Oliver made himself comfortable on the inside of the fortress. Obi found his spot on the outside.

IMG_20140223_150601_918 IMG_20140223_150615_362 IMG_20140223_150700_608

I was inspired, after seeing the floor at this angle, to sweep.

And all was right with the world.

B is for Boy. And Birthday.

The Boy’s birthday was on Saturday and came none too soon. For one thing, I found out during our trip to California that he hates the toaster oven I got him last year for his birthday. So I needed his birthday to hurry and get here so I’d remember to get him a different toaster oven for his birthday this year.

Romance, we has it.

I found the perfect toaster oven and hatched a plan to have it waiting for him to make something toasty on Saturday morning. This meant opening the box, unwrapping everything and setting it up…then putting it back inside the box until Friday night when The Boy went to bed.

Let me help you guess where I’m going with this: I opened a box. I closed the box. I covered the box, in my office for ease of access, with Obi’s blanket.

Obi was going absolutely nuts over this. He spent all day Friday digging at the box. On the box on top of the blanket. By the box. On the box. Under the blanket on the box – and that time I swear he actually got IN the box.

Then, Friday night, I changed my mind about how to give it to him. So I didn’t put it out.

Saturday morning I decided that would have been a fine idea. Luckily, The Boy doesn’t toast things for breakfast so much as he toasts things for lunch, so I set up the toaster oven before he came back from the Saturday train meeting. I couldn’t find any bows so I put a classy yellow post-it on the front that said “a toast for your birthday.”

Then I gave Obi the box.

Oliver came to check it out for a while as well.

Then The Boy came home and made Obi into a box monster.

Box monsters do not like the flash. They attack the box in retribution.

The Boy likes his new toaster oven – complete with a higher ceiling and a timer. Also, it matches the microwave in both style and size so it has moved out to the breakfast nook. This frees up valuable counter space and we’re both excited about that.

Happy Boy’s birthday to the whole Thunder household, I guess.

Obi Wan Turtleobi

Yesterday we received a shipment of little pieces of something model train related. I don’t know what they are, but I do know that The Boy was getting really antsy about whether they’d get here in time for the club to finish their project before the next show. By the way…model trains is not a good hobby if you are impatient. His shipments take weeks to get here and are often late. Like MONTHS late.

But that’s not important. What is important, of course, is that the shipment came in a box.

Obi fits perfectly. Oliver has not even tried to get in this box, but he did chin mark all the flaps while Obi was sitting in it. Then Obi punched him in the eye.

Right now the box is on its side, facing the big box of plastic intestines (also on its side) with the fort blanket draped over them. I didn’t wait to watch, but I can hear Obi playing.

Earlier tonight, right after work, The Boy  was rubbing Obi’s belly. Obviously. When Obi was back on his feet, The Boy grabbed the box, flipped it upside down, and set it on top of the brown kitten. Turtle monster. Because of the flaps, Obi could turn around without moving the box. He kept turning and looking out from whatever flap The Boy wasn’t looking in. Then he stood up fast and the box flew off him.

He turned to The Boy…

Do it again!

It is Thunder Thursday and I bring you this simple truth from the world of Facebook, my friend Nikki, and George Takei.

You STILL do not talk about Fight Club

About a year ago I posted the rules to Thunder Fight Club. It must be a summer thing because it seems to be on again. At least we assume that’s what is going on – the kittehs are sticklers for rules 1 and 2.

Oliver’s bald spots both have cuts. One of them had healed and was quickly replaced with another. When I kiss them and ask how he got the cuts he walks away. You do not talk about Fight Club.

I asked Obi if he knew what had happened to his brother’s sweet face. Obi walked away.

You DO NOT talk about Fight Club.

My computer is back! More importantly, the box is back. There are now two boxes in the living room. Whichever one Oliver is in? That’s the one Obi wants.

Sleeping in the basement continues to be awesome. Yesterday the alarm clock went off and…

Wait for it…

Woke. Oliver. Up.

Awesome.

The best box ever

Obi and Oliver have a favorite box. It is the perfect size for napping. It is upholstered in a fabric that is pleasant to scratch. And it has a lid that folds over for a hammock-like feel.

Best of all, this box appears for limited engagements. The fact that it goes away makes it all the more fabulous when it returns.

The cost of getting to spend time with this special box is that The Boy has to go away. You see, this box is his suitcase. It comes out of his closet the day before a trip. It stays out for several days after he returns.

But as long as The Girl doesn’t get her suitcase out, they seem to think this is a price worth paying. It is a most excellent box. For whoever gets there first in the evening, it is a preferred location for night long slumber no matter how many times The Girl calls.

The Boy came back from his trip Sunday night. The box was still out when I left Wednesday morning. Maybe The Boy will take pity on Kitten Thunder and leave the box out until I return.

Small comforts.

It is Thunder Thursday! Friend Kelly has adopted a handsome young kitten, who would be our featured kitty, but I am typing on my phone. So stayed tuned for a special Sunday edition of Thunder Thursday!

A special note from Thunder cousins, Spade and Gracie:

Gracie – pfffft

Spade – I was helping you unpack. I wasn’t stealing ANYthing from this suitcase. And I certainly wasn’t measuring it to see if I could stuff Gracie in it.

Gracie – pffffffst!  *glare* Why haven’t you burst into flames yet, vile human! I have focused all of my hatred toward you for two days!!!
